REPORT FROM OLA SHOW AND SALE OF GRAZING CATTLE ON FRIDAY 30 APRIL 2010
OLA SHOW & SALE OF GRAZING CATTLE
There were 176 quality grazing cattle forward at the OLA sale of BVD accredited grazing cattle on Friday 30 April 2010. Prior to the sale, Robbie Stanger of Orkney Auction Mart kindly organised the show that was sponsored by Agri-Lloyd and Hamish Maclean Farm Products. The show was judged by Eoin Flett of Redbanks in Tankerness. The champion heifer was a pure Limousin from last year’s winner Richard Taylor of Brencherhouse in Birsay who was presented with the Hamish Maclean farm products trophy and a voucher from Agri-Lloyd. She was sired by “Derosa Torino” out of a home-bred pure Limousin cow and her 370kgs realised £890 (240.5p) when sold and was the top gross price for heifers on the day. The champion steer was a British Blue cross from Alistair and Anne Foubister of Netherton in Holm who was presented with the Hamish Maclean farm products and a voucher from Agri-Lloyd. He was sired by the home-bred “Graemeshall Alphonsie”, a full brother of the British Blue bull sold at the OLA sale the previous day, out of a Limousin cross cow. He scaled 455kgs and made £1100 when sold and was the top gross and kilo price for steer son the day (241.8p). Top kilo price for heifers was attained by Fersness Farms in Eday for a 335kg Limousin that sold for £870 (259.7p).
