Richard Taylor of Brencherhouse in Birsay was awarded Champion calf at the Orkney Livestock Association show and sale of BVD accredited suckled calves at Orkney Auction Mart on Thursday 22 October.  This win has been a battle for Richard after standing reserve the previous four years.  His British Blue cross steer calf was sired by “Bringlee Waldo” (AI) out of a black Limousin cross cow and achieved the highest sale price of the day realising £900 for his 290kgs (310.3p per kilo).  Reserve champion calf was a Limousin cross steer from I & V Sclater, Upper Breckan, Evie.  He was sired by “Kingston Trevis” (AI) out of a British Blue cross cow and was sold as a pair along with the second prize Limousin steer averaging 395kgs and £750 (189.9) per head.  Judging on the day was young Sanday farmer Malcolm Lennie from Silverhall, who has had great success with his own calves at the local shows.

REDBANKS DIPERSAL

Their fostered calves were sold separately and top price calf was an April born Blonde d’Aquitaine cross steer scaling 315kgs and realising £805 (255.6p).  Cows with calves at foot sold up to £2400 for a two year old Simmental cross heifer with a Limousin cross stot calf at foot.
